Jesus

The Good Shepherd

Father, like silly sheep, we have often gone astray, wandering off into the wilds of our own whims and wants. We are sorry. Send Your Holy Spirit to help us to turn from trusting in ourselves and our schemes to trusting in the Good Shepherd and His love for us. For He quenches our parched soul thirst with cooling streams of living water and who feeds our persistent soul hunger with the green pastures of Your Word. We ask in the name of Christ Jesus, our Good Shepherd, the Same who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen!

False and True Disciples

Father, may we again hear the Message that is central to Your holy Word and, is also central to our lives, that is, that out of Your amazing love, You sent Your dear Son to die on a cross and to be raised to Life again. For in this Message alone do we experience purposeful lives empowered with the Holy Spirit’s energy. We ask in the name of Your dear Son, Christ Jesus, the One who died for our sins and was raised again for our justification. Amen!

Shepherds and Sheep and the Door

This day we are often reminded how Jesus is the Good Shepherd that cares for His sheep. However, in the Gospel, Jesus gives us another different and vivid picture of Himself: as a door. He says, “I am the Door of the sheep . . . If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture” (John 10:7, 9). Jesus is the only way to salvation; as His sheep, we look only to Him and listen for His loving voice alone. What a contrast there is between a thief, who would never use the door properly and brings only destruction, and Jesus, the Door, who brings abundant life.

Jesus Only

O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son You confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah. In the voice that came from the bright cloud You wonderfully foreshowed our adoption by grace. Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!
