There is, perhaps, no clearer statement on the necessity of a relationship with Christ Jesus for the living of the Christian Life than Jesus’ statement in John 15:5: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”

Jesus knows that everybody has a pervasive inner spiritual hunger. And Jesus says, “Don’t work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal Life.” What He simply means is this; We are all seeking to satisfy a hunger within us that’s very deep, and anything we put there other than Jesus never will satisfy us; only Jesus and believing in Him satisfies our deep inner hunger.
O God, You see that of ourselves we have no strength. By Your mighty power defend us from all adversities that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!

Christ was not afraid of a confrontation. He spoke truth to power with the Pharisees and called King Herod a fox. Before Him, Jeremiah also told truth to power. Jeremiah almost lost his life for this, and Jesus did. However, Jesus’ ultimate confrontation brings us the ultimate comfort. By confronting sin, death, and the devil, Christ triumphed. Through His resurrection we may know the comfort that comes from knowing Him.
